Posted June 2, 20178 yr Hello fellow shamanic practitioners, I have been journeying for about a year and experienced something rather strange last night during a short journey. I embarked on the journey with a very well defined intention/question and about 2/3 of the way through, I felt as if my body was literally overtaken by the spirit of an eagle. It may be important to say that Eagle is my power animal, but I have never before felt like I actually was the eagle in any kind of physical sense. In my trance state, it literally felt like the spirit of an eagle pressed into me and I then experienced having a beak and my actual human head began making subtle involuntary movements and I felt, rather than heard my eagle-self making vocalizations. In other words, I didn't have any auditory sense of the vocalizations, rather I just understood that it was happening (I hope I'm making sense here - it's actually difficult to put into words). Then my head, again involuntarily, very slowly turned to the left until my face was positioned as close to 180 degrees back as is humanly possible and I had a very physically embodied sense that I was cleaning my feathers. This felt like it went on for about a minute even though chronologically it was likely only seconds and was just really a powerful moment. Soon after, my journey ended. Though I feel like I can recognize the significance of this in terms of helping to answer my intention/question posed at the beginning of the journey, I haven't read of this phenomenon of feeling physically overtaken by the spirit of something else before. I will note that I in no way felt threatened or like it was dangerous. I felt rather that I was being blessed in that moment, but is this typical? Is it something that only happens infrequently or should I anticipate this happening again? Is it something that I need to be wary of? Any advice from experienced shamanic practitioners is greatly appreciated. With warmest wishes and blessings, Stephanie
