lost memories

Recommended Posts

Hello Philkins,

If by lost memories you mean things you can't recall directly then yes that is definitly possible, but the recapitulation goes beyond just regaining memories, what you are after is your personal energy which you are using to keep those memories alive and well, interestingly even if you have forgotten them they still impact your life. By keeping that intent clear and unyelding you can bring your energy back again. So from the shamanic point of view the intent is not to remember everything but to get everything back in terms of energy. This process is not a mental one but a movement of your own energy on a journey to find see itself whole again, it is highly personal and no two people go through the same thing in its unfolding which is part of the fun of rediscovering yourself.

Just new here, I have many memories lost due to trauma.
I was drawn to this site for reasons I cannot explain. Seeing this thread has my keen interest.
I am considering the recap in Dec.
does the recap help in this life's trauma?

Hi,

The recap can definitely help release blockages caused by trauma, giving you access to that energy again. With emotional trauma the memories are not truly lost - they are there but access is blocked through emotion. I'll be honest with you, it can be a difficult ride, since you have to face yourself on levels not many people feel comfortable with, but at the same time very rewarding since the changes tend to be profound once you really get going. In the classes we work with people in a way that helps make the process more gradual, so that people can move at a pace that feels right for them and not dive in head first into things they are not prepared to deal with.

Traumas can definitly be helped with the recapitulation exercise. Humans are actually quite resilient, the energy involved in a trauma can be lost to you and as a result the rest of your energy has to rearrange itself so you will live your life the best you can. It is a function of our survival instinct to do that and some people can function in the world quite well even after living deep traumas, emotional and/or physical. So when you start recapping you are in a sense going to undo that state of balance achieved through compensation around the lost energy and create a more natural fluid one that will account for all your energy as you are getting that lost energy back.

You are going from a point of odd balance to a point of true balance and the movement from one point to the other has to be done in a balanced way :). Working slowly and thoroughly is important so the results you gain stick. We crave the familiar even if it is born out of traumas and the place of health will be quite unfamiliar so you can resist it big time even if you desire it.

It is a bit like postural alignment, you are so used to slouch that when someone helps you achieve a nice relaxed upright posture you feel it is unnatural, maybe wrong and it is not you but in potential it is what your body can do so with practice you can achieve it by helping your body accept it. The recapitulation is about energetic alignement. This analogy is maybe a bit simplistic but I think it works quite well.

In the end when you are free of your past, the point of balance is constantly changing because change is a constant of this world, it is a dance.

Hi. I'm new here. New to the shamanic. I am also drawn to this site, (and to what I've learned of the maker tradition so far), for some reasons I could try to explain and reason I also can't explain. The timing is perfect.

Question: Is recapitulation similar to what is called soul retrieval? retrieving some lost parts of one's own energy body?

It can be viewed that way, as a more gentle and self-directed version. During soul retrieval, normally, the shaman has to be the one guiding the (inaccessible to the healee) energy back. In recap, you're taking back your own by yourself.
